Better than Peeps

Easter,
not a particularly favorite holiday of mine
ever since I discovered
their wasn't really an Easter bunny...sigh
this was AFTER I found out
Santa didn't exist either,
which bothered me less
for some reason,
I guess the idea
of a red suited man sneaking
into the house at night
was easier to let go of
than a cute cotton tailed animal
bearing colorful eggs!

My Easter bunny?
He didn't leave jelly beans
or chocolate or even peeps,
which I don't even like but
would have been a welcome sight
instead of the dried banana chips
and the carob covered raisins
that nestled in the basket of fake greenery
...but sigh
My Easter bunny? Was a healthy one!
yaay!

Never thought much about
Easter baskets
since or Easter for that matter
until I met Jennifer...

She loved Easter and
overwhelmed me with
an Easter basket that first year...
an Easter basket that would
actually change my life!

In it specifically
were a small bottle of miracle bubbles,
a pinwheel and a candy necklace
and YES peeps
(still didn't like them but...
there they were)
I loved the whole basket
and the idea of it
but the candy necklace
was particularly important
and it hung on my bedroom doorknob
for years but then it was gone
when I wished I still had it
Puppy? Cat? Candy Thief?
Don't know!
Had planned to find some
for my friends
for Easter this year
in Jen's memory
but had failed to follow thru.

So on the Saturday before,
at an event
my participating neighbors
asked me if I wanted
a candy necklace? What?
I nearly cried with gratitude,
generously they gave me handfuls
to share later that night,
although they have either made
them smaller
or my adult head is a lot bigger
than my kid one
cause it didn't fit...crap!

Walking to meet Ron
with my two hula hoops, drum,
the bubble wand in the holster,
freed up an arm to hold
a bouquet of balloons,
candy necklaces,
and under each arm
a set of bobble bands...
which left no room
for the pinwheels
which I had forgotten anyways.
So it seems 'my play box '
of necessary toys
has multiplied...

Ron drives right by me,
"oh, I didn't see you"
"Are you kidding me...
with all this stuff?"
I am thinking,
Would you recognize me
WITHOUT it.

It is our last night of Desert Dancing
before the heat settles in.

Desert dancing is
a tradition of gathered friends
who want to play and be wild
at the edge of the lake,
there is Ron's RV, his kitchen set up,
his yummy chili,
a bonfire and chairs that multiply
after every gathering
(he does it all and makes it easy)
Each event more fun than the last
as we find new ways to be ten...
this one turns out to be
no different and possibly the best!

A night before Easter
and a celebration
for my years journey
tho only a few know this
for me personally
I am happy to be surrounded with
such happy playful companions.

The Easter basket surprise comes
in LED this year...
Ron in an untoppable surprise
of bunny giving
dresses up the girls
in flashing necklaces, bracelets, glasses
and fuzzy pink flashing ears.
the only thing missing are the tails
but for extra fun there is a game
of LED frisbee in dense dark landscape
we aim for the ears which is all
we can actually see...
later we can been seen congo dancing
off into the darkness flashing
and wearing our candy necklaces
(well some of us,
who I guess, have smaller heads)
looking for the "mothership."

No peeps again this year
but that's just fine,
candy necklaces are back
and have been added to the "toy box"
along with some bunny ears
and a frisbee!

Going to need a wagon soon to
transport all this fun booty !

Where did I put that radio flyer?

Thanks for the smile Pam. Glowing bunny ears, candy necklaces and good times with friends are much better then Peeps!

You guys look so cute in your Easter Ears! I bet it was quite fun! Candy necklaces? Never had one. I did go for Pop Rocks though! I liked the scariness of my mouth exploding!
